the music reviews
This work from the composer Karl-Birger Blomdahl (1916-1968) was first performed in 1945 for the debut of The Wakeful Night. A dramatic production about the witch hunts of the seventeenth century. It is performed by the Swedish Chamber Orchestra. Blomdahl was an innovator among his Swedish contemporaries. If you appreciate Grieg and Sibelius, this collection will enhance your Scandinavian classical music library. I predict that you will recognize these selections in a deep way. You will feel a strange familiarity. The second movement of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony has the same effect on new listeners.
